This
story is only for people with broad minds, which, thank god, the parents of this
little girl had.
One
un-inspiring day a little girl of about 5 was brought to my surgery with her 7
year old sister. It was the first time that she had needed treatment at the
dentist although she had been many times for check ups.
Having never
had an injection in her mouth before, she was a bit worried and I wasn't sure
she would let me do it.
The parents
and myself were coaxing her and making encouraging noises when her sister
chirped up " Don't worry Amy, Mr Preston will put his prick in your mouth
and it will feel all funny". At this her mother's face dropped, my nurse
looked shocked then the father burst out laughing uncontrollably. This only
added to the mother’s embarrassment at first until she saw the funny side. The
children thankfully were oblivious to the joke and I hope they didn't ask for
an explanation when they got home.
The main thing
is that Amy did let me do the filling.
A similar
thing happened with one of my adult patients but she knew what she was saying.
The lady was
lay in the chair and out of the blue said, " You know it is difficult, I
always want to swallow when you put your tool in my mouth."
I laughed at
her and said, " Do you know what you just said?" to which she replied
with a glint in her eye, "Of course, I thought that would amuse you."
